Why I Gave Up Being a Talk Radio Show Host

Recently, a friend of mine encouraged me to get into talk radio. So I tried.

Once and only once. Never before, never again.

It was a first-class disaster.

This isn’t the whole show, but it’s the first phone call I got that night. . . and the last.

Click the link below and listen to the hot-boiling phone call from a disgruntled caller. It’s less than 4 minutes long. That was the call that shattered my dream of becoming a talk radio show host!

Sigh.

just a note for those of you who took this call seriously … it was a “prank” bit designed to entertain. a bit of talk radio schtick. ’tis humor.

    Frank,

If that was for real, you handled it very well. Also, I thought you did an excellent job throughout the show. I rarely (if ever) laugh out loud listening to Christian radio (at least in a good way ;)

The guy lives in Austin?!? Given his attitude, imagine what his days are like. I live and am native to Austin (and LOVE it). Our poor old vet (he fought for you, you ungrateful hippie) must lay down a constant stream of bile in this blue island of a city. Sadly, I recognize his rhetoric if not his voice.

Frank, you may be under indictment for causing an anurism in an old man who isn’t coping well with change. Wish I knew what you said that set him off.

When was this on the air? I do wonder what he was responding to. Perhaps it was the style of music, haha but, really, what do you think it was, Frank?

You are at least provocative. Isn’t this the response most talk show hosts are seeking? You are a natural.

Boy, Mr. Viola, he really let you have it! Which book was he calling to complain about? No wonder why you left radio. I’m still a little shaken myself!

By the way, did the police ever straighten you out?
