Better Than Mail Chimp, Constant Contact, Abweber, etc.

For over 10 years, PTMIN has been using a software program to send my quarterly updates to our subscriber list. It has worked fine for us. And the cost is extremely low. (A one time fee of less than $200 for the version we use.)

Over the last two years we’ve experimented with other email mailer programs including Mail Chimp, Constant Contact, and Abweber.

Given the size of our subscriber list, these services cost anywhere from $250 to $300 per mailing.

For our quarterly newsletter, that’s $1,000+ per year.

Granted, services like Mail Chimp, Constant Contact, and Abweber have nifty templates and really kewl graphic stats. But to my surprise, their open-rates are pretty lousy.

In fact, we did manual tests and found that many of our subscribers who have valid email addresses never received the newsletter through these services.

The emails didn’t’ even go into their spam folders. It didn’t get to them at all.

The short of if is that we’ve chosen to stick with the tested and tried program we’ve been using all this time.

Several people who have mailing lists have asked me what we use for our updates. So I thought it would be good to tell you about this program from first-hand experience.

The Strong Points:

1. It’s very inexpensive. A one-time fee of $99 (for the Home Edition) or $169 (for the Professional Edition). Compare that to Mail Chimp, Constant Contact, and Abweber and you’re saving thousands of dollars.

2. It’s very easy to send out a newsletter or email to your subscriber list.

3. There is no limit at all. If you’re mailing list is 100,000 . . . you can use it as many times as you want for as many different mailing lists as you want. And your mailing lists can be any size.

4. The open-rate is BETTER than it is on any of the other services we’ve tried.

5. The program has tech support by email and they reply quickly to your questions.

6. They give you a 25% commission when you refer other people to the program and they purchase it.

How It’s Different From Other Services:

1. This is a program not a remote service. So you send your email updates or newsletters from your computer at home. Consequently, your list must be clean or else your Internet service provider might receive complaints. And if you use a domain name to send the emails out (I’m told), your domain name can get blacklisted. So be sure your list is clean and people have subscribed.

2. We’ve found that sending to one email address at a time rather than sending it at the bulk/mass rate is much more reliable. So this means it works in the background while your computer is on and sends your email newsletter/update to one email address at a time until your list is finished. You can also set how long you want the delay to be between each email address it sends to.

3. It doesn’t give you nifty graphic templates. And unless you have the Professional Edition and a POP email account, you can’t track opens. But again, we’ve tested it ourselves, and it’s much more reliable than the other services that charge so much more. Keep in mind that there is no program or service that has a 100% open or send rate.

One of my favorites is “The Mystery”. Not a solo album but very romantic and powerful.

    Ever heard of Jason Upton?

Yep. I’m familiar with virtually every modern-day Christian artist and song-writer (barring those who are virtually unknown).

      Ruis is peerless ;-)

Btw/ some of Ruis’ classic songs which he wrote have been re-done and re-done by other artists (like “I Will Worship”). But the originals from his own albums have never been trumped.

I agree. Ruis is great. He’s got some great recent albums that don’t get much play (because Vineyard Music isn’t as big as it used to be) but I really enjoyed Wide Wide World (an album he did through Forerunner Music) and When Justice Shines (through Ion Worship). They’re both great albums…the Wide Wide World album has a ton of David’s old stuff remixed for young adults and done live. You also can’t go wrong with Fragrant Oil and Shake Off the Dust, both Vineyard albums that flew way under the radar.

You should look @ grooveshark.com for music. You may be able to find him there. I find lots of worship stuff there. Sovereign grace music is powerful too.

The new album “When Justice Shines” is simply amazing! Lyrically and musically as always original, hearfelt worship. Straight to the Father. Ruis is not bothered about how many people sing his songs, he sings to an audience of one.
