What Do You Do For Fun?

I’m interested to hear about the various and sundry hobbies and pastimes that you all have.

Things that you do for fun that aren’t work-related. Even if you derive enjoyment from your work or your ministry, I’m interested in hearing about those things that aren’t directly related to either.

For example, I have a friend who is into fishing. That’s what he does for fun. Another is into golf. Another is into tennis. Another loves to hunt. Another is into playing softball in a league. Another enjoys studying and making fine tea. Another friend is into cooking.

What things do you do for fun?

    A lot of things really:

Work out (track and weight lift), fishing, boat life, reading and tasting selected exclusive wines with my wife(like Amarone, Barolo) et ceter :) .

Of course also: hanging out with friends:)

Just realised I am not very original ;)

I LOVE the outdoors – hiking, jogging, and lately bike riding. Perusing quaint antique shops, historic towns and art galleries are also a favorite. However, my hobby seems to be re-arranging the furniture in my house on a regular basis…for whatever reason. Am trying my hand at acrylic painting these days as well.

Just about anything outdoors. Especially hiking/camping. I enjoy canoeing and kyaking but don’t own one, so I only do that when I’m someplace to borrow or rent one.

Also movies, reading, guitar, and martial arts.

I play tabletop games – board games, Warhammer 40,000, RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons. By myself I really love painting miniatures for the latter two. It’s technically also my job since I run a gaming store, but I’d be lying if I said anything else. :)

I am member of the Society for Creative Anacronism, the SCA we partake in activities that were done during the Middle ages. I myself am active in the fighting aspects of the game both war fighting and tournament fighting.

I love to relax @ the beach under my umbrella, swim and body surf and back to my chair with a drink in my hand and my toes in the sand. Rinse and repeat. :-)

  23. Aaron June 28, 2012 at 6:53 pm #

In no particular order: running, slow-smoking ribs with homemade rub and sauce, writing, root beer, a good cigar out on the deck under the stars, great cinema, the beach. All of those, however, pale in comparison to hanging out with my smokin’ hot wife and three adorable daughters.

  24. Taco Verhoef June 28, 2012 at 6:43 pm #

I love to watch and observe people.

  25. Christopher Bothma June 28, 2012 at 5:57 pm #

  26. Frank Prescott June 28, 2012 at 3:43 pm #

Sitting on the deck, doing nothing but reading, thinking and watching the birds, clouds, deer and recently several rabbits meander around the back yard. (Just as long as they don’t try to get into the garden).

Pick my guitar. Watching the Atlanta Braves.

  27. Tweeny June 28, 2012 at 2:41 pm #

I love this question because it made me think. I am a stay at home mom and I often don’t think about doing fun things that I enjoy. I like to read. I like to have coffee or lunch with a friend or family member. I like to write.
Thanks for making me think. Now I need to put these desires in action.

    :)

I enjoy attending at least one family Bible camp/Bible school with my husband every summer. It’s a wonderful way to learn, have fellowship and fun, and to escape from the pressures of the world. God willing my husband and I will be attending one next week that we’ve never been to before!

I love to play electric guitar with special interest in Texas Blues, Hard Rock and Metal. More recently, my wife and I have taken to watching Spanish TV Series to improve our Spanish, seeing that we live in Barcelona. I also love playing golf with my 2 sons aged 6 and 8. And then, deep within, I long for deeper and more intimate fellowship with other believers as the gospel takes root in our new town.

I’m a pyrographer. :) That’s just a fancy term that means I do woodburnings. I have a woodburning tool, an iron of sorts, that burns into the wood. I do all sorts of different designs. I do sell them from time to time, but I’m a sign language interpreter by trade. Pyrography is very relaxing. I love the smell of the wood burning, especially when I’m working with cedar. I’m the only one within several hundred miles who does this art form. I love having a unique hobby! :D

The one thing I like to do when I’m alone and have some free time is cook. I’m not naturally crafty or artistic(scrap-booking is my kryptonite), I’m more of a science nerd and I feel like cooking is a science that allows me to express my creative side. Just writing about it makes me want to run to the kitchen.

  52. Greg June 28, 2012 at 9:26 am #
