To My Blog Readers: 8 Things You Should Know

I want to thank all of you who subscribe to this blog. It’s because of your faithful readership that the blog is doing so well.

It may surprise some of you that I’ve had days where I’ve entertained the thought of shutting the blog down.

Why? Because of the time it takes away from other projects, especially writing books. Add to that, I sometimes get discouraged that I have thousands of lurkers (who are full-fledged subscribers) who never make a comment.

But every time I’ve entertained such thoughts, someone will let me know that this blog is making a difference in their lives. So I press on.

That said, here are eight things I want you to know:

1) If you are subscribed by Email, you will see the share links below each post. Click them to share the posts on Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Stumbleupon, or Email the link to a friend. Most readers use Twitter or Facebook.

Here’s what the links look like at the bottom of your post when you receive it by Email:

2) Never make a comment by clicking “Reply.” No one will see it. You must make your comment on the blog itself. The easiest way to do this is to click the title/heading of the post when you get it in your Email inbox or click the “comments” link at the bottom of the post (see above).

3) I am not the person who moderates comments. If you ever make a comment and you don’t see it, check these 10 Rules for Commenting. IMPORTANT: A small percentage of legitimate comments go into spam. This blog receives over 1,000 spam comments a week, so if your comment goes into spam, it’s automatically deleted without anyone seeing it. We aren’t sure why the blog software marks some comments as spam.

4) Most subscribers are in their 20s, 30s, or 40s. However, most in that age group never comment. Take that as an encouragement to participate in the conversations and not always lurk. I, for one, want to hear your comments. Even if it’s as simple as saying that a post was helpful to you.

5) Click here to read the top 50 posts of all time. These posts are evergreen.

6) Click here if you want to be notified about live events. Some of you have asked me about this.

7) Some of you have asked about our adverting rates to advertise on the blog or newsletter. If you’re interested in this, shoot an email to PTMIN@aol.com and ask for the ad rates page. The prices are better than most blogs that have less traffic.

8) Finally, my new book, Beyond Evangelical, is the official souvenir for this blog. If you enjoy my blog posts, you’ll enjoy the book. Some of the chapters do not appear anywhere else. Click the banner below to get your copy.

I too am one that doesn’t leave a comment but I do read your blogs and find each one has something that has given me fresh insight or understanding, and I thank God for your ministry.

I’m a lurker and have never commented on anything anywhere, but this once I will. Just so you know the vast majority of your blogs, books, podcasts, et al have been very encouraging to me and to my wife. We’re part of the church planted in Cincinnati by Milt and Mary. We’d been looking for this for a long time!

OH!! Please don’t quit! I read, but rarely comment. It’s hard enough for me to find the time to keep up with the demands of a busy growing family (we have 5 children and homeschool), much less to frame a coherent response to anything. However, I find your writing to be an encouragement in a dry spell where I know no one who “one anothers” in a biblical fashion. Thank you for all your work, it is truly a blessing to me.

You are a blessing to so many Frank, thanks for your devotion to the body of Christ. We will one day rejoice together at the wedding supper table, Rejoicing in His resurrection, and rejoicing with one another as heirs of His promises.

This blog is the biggest online resource I’ve found through twitter. I’ll try to post more to reflect what I think of you and your amazing blog, and to share ideas when I can. Peace!

I really appreciate all of your work and I look forward to reading your blog posts every morning. If people like me do not engage in the conversation as much as you would like, understand that most of us have a very limited amount of time. I wish your posts appeared in my Facebook newsfeeds because it would be easier to share your work and comment upon. Anyway, thank you for all the time, effort and thought you put into everything you write. Your work is transforming my thinking and my faith. Can’t thank you enough!

I pray you will have the time to continue your writing–both blog and books. I am reading Reimagining Church right now. with great profit.

Thanks for you and the revelation that you have sought and carries you. I am grateful for your writings and insights and the community that is being cultivated by birthing or renewing of what you write about. Bless you,

I really like reading your blog but rarely comment because I have nothing super important to say. Imagine if thousands of people commented, you’d be overwhelmed :) Also- I just don’t do Facebook, Twitter etc.

  11. Stephon Blalock July 12, 2012 at 11:54 pm #

Hey Frank! Thanks for all you do! I can understand the feeling of discouragement when you have something to share and it seems no one is listening. Keep going bro. We need what you have to offer, both lurkers and those who comment. Things are continually shifting in Christendom and without those who can provide a leveled perspective, it can be easy to get lost in translation.
I also think the idea of mutual encouragement and refreshment is easily forgotten when you are so used to receiving. Forgive us Frank for withholding what has been in our capacity to give by God’s grace:a word of encouragement that refreshes. Thank you for your dedication and service to the body of Christ.

Your writing and speaking has been a lifeline to Christ for years. The blog is especially important because it’s daily and free to all. Thanks also for the podcasts. Don’t quit please!

  13. Pat July 12, 2012 at 10:27 pm #

Frank, Please don’t be discouraged! I believe you are helping so many people. I have been so blessed and encouraged by your books and this blog! Some days the only teaching and encouragement I get is from your blog. I so appreciate everything you do Frank. Please we need you!!!

  14. John Bullington July 12, 2012 at 7:07 pm #

This lurking “no commenter” wants to comment. Your work is invaluable. I appreciate your writing ability very much. I look forward to your posts for they offer much to my spiritual growth.

  15. Newt July 12, 2012 at 6:20 pm #

Frank, Thanks for the recent interviews and recommendations on novels and music with Eric Wilson and Rachel Smith. I am deployed overseas and was just wanting some more reading and music–very timely.

  16. Raymond Broad July 12, 2012 at 6:17 pm #

Please keep going rank. Yours are my most read comments. I don’t know if this will get through. I tried to comment on your question the other day and failed – I think

  17. Gunnar Falk July 12, 2012 at 4:47 pm #

I echo Jamal. I’ll try to remember to leave even a ‘thanks’ or something every time I read. Know that I am a guy who reads, but doesn’t always comment…

  18. Gene Smith July 12, 2012 at 4:45 pm #

    Frank,

Please please do keep onward, you are helping people in ways that you are unaware! We thank you so much for your time & words of wisdom- I myself have learned so much, and have found this blog so very helpful in a world that is ‘full of blogs’, and with so little time to read so many, you are one in particular that DOES NOT go into my spam box. I find your blogs helpful, informative, comforting, and something I look forward to in my emails-Bless you and thank you~ Much Love!

Frank, you are a gifted writer and the email subscription from your blog are so much better than other daily devotions. Sometimes I’m amazed at the way you see things in the Word of God and explain them so beautifully, and certainly the Spirit of Christ is in you.
It has only been about a month since I subscribed to your blog, and yours is refreshingly different from my other email subscriptions, which I’ve just unsubscribed.

God bless you for sharing Beyond Evangelical with us.

  21. Justin Visser July 12, 2012 at 12:33 pm #

Yes! I agree wholeheartedly with all of the above comments. Don’t be discouraged. Please don’t quit. I have learned so much from you and learned about so many others who have helped me grow in my walk with Christ because of your blog. I do not comment often, but I do read nearly everything you write. Keep at it. You are making a difference. God has used you to help me be transformed into a greater likeness of Himself.
    Thank You.
    Justin

Hey Frank, you have no idea the difference the Lord has made in my life through your ministry. Your blog is a continual source of help and inspiration and since seeing you in Orlando a couple of years ago the focus of my entire ministry has changed. We are seeing God make a change in the UK, and when my website is up I will market your books; I have recommended them so many times I have hopefully been part of keeping you going. Thought I might cash in ;-)

It maybe my comments on previous posts got lost because I may have made them on the email.

    Keep up the great work,

    Mark

  23. Lenny July 12, 2012 at 11:15 am #

Love you bro., and what you write. You encourage me a lot.

  24. George July 12, 2012 at 10:27 am #

Brother, be encouraged! This blog and your books have had a profound effect on my life and that of my family, and I believe that of many others as well. Talking about age groups, my 11 year old girl, seem to understand the “eternal purpose” in ways that blow my mind. I have read all of your books (including Beyond Evangelical – which I read in one sitting)and I know you are doing a great work for the kingdom now and beyond. I also like the way you promote others on your blog. Through you I have now read works from NT Wright, Milt Rodriquez, Jon Zens among others. Keep up the good work. I have to do my part by commenting more instead of just reading (lurking?). God bless!

  25. Nathan July 12, 2012 at 10:03 am #

    Hi Frank,

I’m one of those lurkers, I guess…not lurking to take a swipe though. Grad-school, homeschool, work, and pastoring keeps me busy. Your blog has often be an oasis in a desert that is my current church experience. Your blog and books have often been the encouragement that I needed to continue to be obedient where God has called me.

Keep pressing on. Jesus’ words to me this week have been from John 4, where Jesus said the water that He gives wells up to springs of eternal life. It may be that you are one of those springs for people who are journeying through the desert. Stay strong and obedient!

    Blessings,
    Nathan

AND a new way of LIVING IN THE KINGDOM .Living Beyond Evangelical. I got Freedom.
    Keep up the Strong Work

  27. Jamal Jivanjee July 12, 2012 at 9:16 am #

    Frank,

I have said this before to you and many others, and I’ll say it again. The Lord is building a glorious city made out of spectacular precious stones. You are a stunningly beautiful stone that the Lord is using to build His lasting city. I thank the Lord for your friendship and daily labor for His city. Because our paths have crossed, I see Him and know Him in ways unspeakable. In this age, and in the age to come, I will be forever grateful. Love you bro!

  28. Mac Dumcum July 12, 2012 at 8:26 am #

Please don’t be discouraged, Brother Frank. You are providing a major service to the Body of Christ with your thought provoking content. We need you.

    Soldier on!

    Mac
