Darin Hufford – the author of the excellent book, The Misunderstood God – is a dear brother and a friend of mine.
For sometime now, Darin has been struggling with a serious illness. I was in communication with him when I learned about it and referred him to some friends of mine who have experience in medicine. It seems, however, that the situation has only grown worse.
Very recently, I received the horrible news that Darin was in critical condition and his vitals were shutting down. In short, he has been close to death’s door.
On a personal level, I’ve been deeply troubled by this as I care for this brother and don’t want to see him lost to us so soon. The prayers of many of God’s people have gone forth on behalf of Darin Hufford and his family.
Here are some very encouraging updates of late:
From his wife Angie on Saturday:
Today one of Darin’s Dr. came in and saw Darin sitting up and he said “You know Darin I think you may just walk out of here.” Then another Dr. came in smiling and told Darin he could have ice chips. Darin was so excited!! Although they want to make sure I know we aren’t out of the woods yet. Please continue to pray for his pancreas. On the way out tonight he mouthed I Love You and blew me a couple of kisses. My heart is so HAPPY!
From his sister Renee on Saturday:
Although Darin is showing many signs of improvement it is important to note that the doctors have stated he is not out of the woods yet. We must continue to pray for his pancreas to heal. Now that Darin is no longer being sedated, he is having to endure the long and painful days in the ICU without the ability to communicate effectively and without the ability to eat or drink. This has been extremely agitating and frustrating for him. Please pray for his mental and emotional well being during this difficult time. Thank you!
From his friend Esther yesterday:
He is off the ventilator and is no longer being sedated. He began physical therapy the other day and was even able to sit on the side of the bed and DR let him have ice chips and he mouthed “I love you” to his wife and blew her kisses. This is amazing progress! His kidneys are nearly completely functional, but still continue to pray for pancreas. Also, he cannot eat or drink or communicate normally and the recovery process out of sedation is extremely challenging and painful. Your continued prayers are appreciated.

Let’s continue to hold our brother Darin Hufford up to the Lord.
As you receive updates, feel free to post them in the comments. If they are significant, I’ll add them to the post.

I’m sorry that I’ve read this post so late-hopefully not too late. Personally, as believers born into the kingdom/realm of God, we have the very Person of Christ abiding within our born-from-above spirit. Corporately, as sons of God, acutely aware of His indwelling presence and of His incalculable worth as the members of His Body, we can grant Christ endless expression-allowing Him to be whatever His Body needs Him to be at the time; including Healer.
From this perspective, Christ is more interested in our healing than we are, because it’s His Body He wants healed, to the glory of His Father, and as a witness to a world that needs to see in order to believe.
As Darin inwardly beholds Christ as His Healer, he can outwardly express Christ as one who is healed. But, considering his constant pain and discomfort, as Darin’s brothers and sisters in the Lord personally and/or corporately inwardly behold Christ as the Healer of His Body, with that acute sustained, inward awareness of Christ’s indwelling Presence, and of Darin’s worth as a member of Christ Himself, the brethren can come away from such encounters with something that is of Him; something of the other realm that can be brought into ours; something that can be brought to Darin.
Christ is the Body and the Body is Christ, ministering unto itself; cooperating with God’s grace/Christ in whatever way the Head deems necessary, for as long as necessary; till His result is achieved. This Physician can in fact heal Himself today through the members of His Body.
I sincerely hope and pray that this word was in season and of benefit to the members of Christ’s Body.
Darin, I just prayed for you and I asked our holy father to remind me to remember to continually pray for you.
I meet with a men’s prayer warrior groupnon Sundays, so each Sunday we will pray for a complete reiteration for you. I am certain God will respond to our humble efforts, because I was severly Ill the last two years, and I have recovered. No doubt, these prayer warriors played a part in my recovery. My faith has dramatically increased from this experience and my efforts as part of this men’s group.
Best regards,
Harry Preston, your Brother in Christ
Was horrified to learn about Darin’s illness. I had had no idea. His Free Believers’ site was a great encouragement to me for a while a few years back. So I add my prayers to all of yours above.
Thanks for sharing Frank. I will be praying for Darin and his family!
PS I have read Darin’s book and it is great!
Darin abides in the shelter of the Most High, resting in the shadow of the Almighty. SURELY, He will save him for the deadly pestilence. He is covered by His feathers and need not fear the pestilence that stalks in the darkness. Because He loves God, God will rescue him, deliver him, honor him, satisfy him with a long life and show him His salvation. I believe Him. This is my prayer of faith for this brother.
The Spirit of the Lord moved me as I read this post and the updates from Wife & friend. The Lord is there with Darin and hears the prayers of friends. He knows all our ills and troubles and is with those who are close to Darin. Praise be to the Lord who is with us, amen.Lord, hear our prayers, be with to heal for total recovery of Darin by your spirit who is within him, amen.

Even though I do not know Darin Hufford I felt compelled to lift my brother up to Father for I believe after reading what Frank had to say of you. I also believe you are very needful to the body of Christ in this time. Praying now and will continue to Pray.
I have asked our Father to continue healing Darin Hufford. Frank, keeping knocking at the door!
“Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives. The one who seeks finds. And to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Lk 13)
I am glad to hear your friend is doing better!
