Well, Derwin has just come out with a new book called Limitless Life. I caught up with him recently to talk about his new book.
Derwin, why did you write Limitless Life: You Are More Than Your Past When God Holds Your Future?
Derwin Gray: Frank, I wrote Limitless Life because I’m like most people; I’ve had negative labels that limited me from laying hold of my destiny. For years I thought I was dumb. One of my mom’s boyfriends called me dumb when I was 8, so I carried that label for years. Because my father was not involved in my life, I felt like an orphan. I lived with fear. All these labels limited me. BUT when I met Jesus, He lovingly, and with violent, terrific grace, ripped those labels off my heart and stitched His life-giving labels that have transformed how I see myself. I want to join Jesus in setting others free.
Who did you have in mind while writing?
Derwin Gray: Just like the sub-title says, “You Are More Than Your Past When God Holds Your Future,” I want to liberate people from their past. It’s often in our formative years that negative labels are embedded into our hearts. I want to join Jesus in letting people know that with His indwelling Life, a whole new world of living is available. I’m a walking testimony to His glorious grace.
How long did it take for you to write Limitless Life?
Derwin Gray: It took my whole life to write Limitless Life. Now that I look back at my life, God was unfolding a story of grace through people, heartache, and success. Putting pen to paper and writing was about a 4 month process of getting up at 5:00am and writing to 7:00am, five days a week.
Is this book for Christians or people who are not yet Christians?
Derwin Gray: My writing is like my preaching. I firmly believe that the Gospel can simultaneously edify the believer and evangelize the lost.
What are you hopes for this Limitless Life?
Derwin Gray: My hope is that fifty years from now people are still reading Limitless Life because of the message.
