Last week, I had a public exchange with noted New Testament scholar Ben Witherington. Witherington is a seminary professor, prolific author, and pastor. Ben is a friend. And I think he’s an excellent New Testament exegete, particularly with respect to first-century historical background. As far as his stature as a theologian, however, he and I have some significant disagreements.
Anyway, the exchange began when Ben wrote an extremely lengthy critical review of my new book, “Reimagining Church.”
To my surprise, he graciously asked me to respond to his review on his blog. Which I was happy to do.
Here’s my single-dose response to Ben – it’s quite lengthly only because Ben’s review was very lengthy. (His points are contained in my response.) But the content is vitally important, I believe.

Enjoy.
