I’m very sad.
Michael Spencer . . . known as the Internet Monk . . . passed away last night. Michael was a friend and an esteemed brother in Christ. He was only in his mid 50s.
I never met Michael face to face. We met through the Internet via his superb blog, and we became instant friends. His articles and podcasts were outstanding. He also took an genuine interest in my work, and was very kind and gracious in reviewing it. I don’t read many blogs, but Michael’s was among my favorites.
A few months back he asked me to endorse his upcoming book, which I gladly did. It’s called Mere Churchianity. Even though it releases in September, it is at this moment ranked 3,800 on Amazon, which is very good. (That’s 3,800 out of 7 million plus books.) I suspect that when it releases, it will break 1,000. The book is among the last things he left those of us who remain on this side of the veil.
I’ll miss this man much, and so will the body of Christ . . . especially his family and long-standing friends.
Michael was a gift. We have lost a choice vessel. But heaven is richer.
Please remember his family at this time.

I knew Michael in the same way that you did Frank although probably not as directly in terms of the communication. While there’s much to be said for face to face friends, I have to confess that I’ve experienced some real grief over the loss of Michael and just knowing that his blogs and insights will no longer be around. It’s a real sense of loss and I pray for his family and direct circle of friends who have no doubt lost even more.

Dear Sad Brother,
And HE shall wipe the tears from your eyes, for HE is the Almighty God of the living. What is death? Our Father, is the Father of LIVING children, for such LIFE, death does not exist! Praise the Almighty and only God! HE is the Lord of Glory; the warmth of HIS Love reached into death and gave us eternal life in HIS Glory Light.
An internet hug to you brother.

Really sorry to hear that. Loved listening to The Internet Monk podcast. He will be missed.

It is always sad to hear of someone dying so young, tough on the family. As you say, Heaven is richer.

Very sad for those of us here, indeed.
I only recently discovered his podcasts and found them to be Biblical, smart, enjoyable, and helpful. Thank you for the link to his book.
Will be praying over his family.

I agree that when a god-sent gift leaves this earth realm a void is felt. May the Lord continue to keep and comfort his family, and use the many contributions that he left.

We have lost a great guy. I only knew him through his website and a few emails back and forth, but even so I feel the loss. His articles and postings always provoked me to think and strengthened my faith. They were always refreshingly honest and gracious. They helped me as I sought clarity and dug into my complacency when I was tempted to sit back and quit wrestling with my faith.
May God hold Michael’s family especially closely to His Heart, and let them, even in their grief, feel His presence.
Blessings and prayers,
Mary
