Frank: Listened to this podcast last night, brother. Certainly something worth pondering as we approach Resurrection Sunday. I pray we all know him in the way you described. I’m sharing this with my facebook friends. 🙂
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful depiction of the Jesus I know. Thank you Frank for taking the simple message of Christ to those who do not know Him in the way you have described. He is a God for the people, of the people, and about the people. He is a God who cares about the hopeless, the shamed, those who are broken, those who are abused and what I call the “odd-lings” in life, those who are an outcast to society. This is my heart, and what is at the very heart of God Crazy. Pray for us as we move ahead to share this very message with the world. – Your sister, Michelle.
Frank, and fellow partakers of his grace,
My friends and I would love to share the passion that we have taken away from this message. It was so awesome to actually hear a great message about our Lord, and not just another message on how to handle THINGS that hinder us. We have listened to it over and over. It actually is a weekly message we listen to while driving to work or meditating on him. Like I said awesome, brother!! Blessings to you all. Grace and Peace.
Awesome! Just listed to that podcast again yesterday, and planned on playing parts of it this Sunday. This video will help greatly! Thank you for sharing!
Why do you feel the fall was a “tragedy”? (03:32) Is your characterization of the fall as a mistake poetic license? (I do appreciate the fact that our language, like us and all creation are limited and “groaning”) Is it possible that the fall made us imperfect (unworthy) on purpose so that God’s love poured out became agape, grace, unmerited?
Max: Few Christians would say that murder, genocide, sex slavery, the torture and rape of children, etc. are not “tragedies” … all results of the Fall. However, more importantly, I find it amazing that one could hear that entire video on the epic greatness and remarkable glories of the Lord Jesus Christ and come away with an academic question about the word “tragedy.” Or perhaps you didn’t hear the whole thing but heard one short clip where I used the word “tragedy” . . . I hope that’s the case. 🙂
Wow! Frank, I thought the same thing when I read that comment. Did he hear the same message I did? Bro, your talk was amazing and it made me weep. I was blown away. I’m going to get the book now. Thank you.
Each week I work with those who have been on the receiving end of such tragedies, typically men and women who were sexually abused before age 5. I CANNOT tell them Jesus was right there with them… YET, AGAIN and AGAIN I quietly sit beside them as JESUS says EXACTLY that to their spirits. I can do nothing but weep in Joy as I see the peace and freedom God graces them with. Central to what I share with them in preparation is that God makes NO mistakes and (at least) filters EVERYTHING that happens to us. This is the source of my question. What is your basis for believing the fall was a mistake?
Adam and Eve “sinned.” Genesis 3 makes this plain and so does Paul in his letters. Sin is missing the mark. That sin is what theologians mean by the Fall. The Fall = Adam and Eve’s disobedience and the tragic results of it. But God knew it ahead of time and planned to remedy it.
Let’s move on to talking about our Epic Lord, which filled the rest of the 55 minute talk. The talk wasn’t about the Fall but about our awesome Lord as unveiled in Colossians 1.
BTW Frank…
This is the second time I listened to this tape. I have read and enjoyed 6 of your books, including FETH. I was very much one of the biblicists Smith writes of in his Bible Made Impossible. Like you and most of your readers, God is changing me and allowing me to see a few of the silly lies I’ve believed. It’s good to have a few friends along the way to share with.
Blessings!

Awesome expression of Christ Jesus! When we see Christ, all else fades away, all the its, things, ifs, and buts disappear. Christ!
