If you’re like me, you’ve been waiting YEARS for a first-rate, high quality, non-laughable, riveting and engaging depiction of the biblical story made into film.
Well, we may have been born for such a time as this. I’m told that The Bible: The Epic Miniseries fits the bill.
Some are raving about it. Others said they didn’t like it. So the verdict is out for me.
Hence, I just bought my DVD set (Blu-ray) and look forward to watching the series.
From the Producer: Executive Producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett have given us The Bible — an epic 10-part miniseries retelling stories from the Scriptures for a whole new generation. Breathtaking in scope and scale, The Bible features powerful performances, exotic locales and dazzling visual effects that breathe spectacular life into the dramatic tales of faith and courage from Genesis through Revelation. This historic television event will entertain and inspire.

Hi Frank: This is in reference to the advertisement for The Bible Miniseries you posted. I was pretty excited to watch The Bible, and as I got further into the second episode (I missed the first), my excitement turned to great dissapointment. I expected accurate Biblical story-telling; instead, many times I had to explain to my children (as we were watching it) that what the actors and producers were portraying was not actually how the Bible accounts it. Though I’m all for Bible-based television productions (and oh, how we need more of them!), I was very disappointed in the “creative liberties” that were taken in this miniseries. It defeated the purpose of using it as a visual educational aid to the written Word in teaching our children the historical accounts of the heroes of faith. For this alone, we will not be purchasing this miniseries.
On an up note… am enjoying your books!

Hi Alicia,
It was with great disappointment that I read your response to the Bible miniseries. I understand and support the need for a certain amount of “poetic licence” for dramatic effect but I become very frustrated with directors who wander away from the biblical text. I too am looking for “a first-rate, high quality, non-laughable, riveting and engaging depiction of the biblical story made into film.” Thanks for the warning. $30 isn’t much in the USA, but with the local exchange rate the cost for me would be nearly R300. As a pensioner I can’t afford to invest that much in an inaccurate production that doesn’t accurately portray the word.
(Any comments on our remarks Frank?)

I might write a review once I see the entire series.

Greetings Frank – During this Easter season, I have been reading From Eternity to Here. Perfect fit for staying focused on the reason Christ came to Earth, and how the mission and purpose behind it all did not end on Resurrection Day! Julie B.
