This Hilarious Video Reminds Me of the State of Christianity Today
Trying to bring the gospel to 21st-century postmodern culture using traditional mindsets and archaic methods works about as well as this coach’s efforts did with this team.

Another reason soccer is the beautiful game. I have considered blogging about football and American football and the implications of organic church and shared life community. This may be the catalyst for me…we’ll see. I’ll have to buy some of those shorts first!
“We’re gonna beat the Dallas cowboys, the Dallas cowboys, and Jennifer Lawrence.” Too good. I don’t know about the whole traditional vs. non-traditional stuff, but being an American ministering to youth in Australia (where there ARE 4 kinds of football), I know exactly what’s goin on in the video… cuz that was me for a while. What’s the story you tell in one of your books, Frank, about the tobacco plants of the same species growing completely differently in other countries? That’s what it’s like here, from the biggest to the smallest you can tell they’re all churches, but it’s not hard at all to see that they’re much different than the church in the USA. You just gotta trust His leadership and word or else you probably won’t minister too well in any context-big, small, far close, native, or foreign. Thanks for sharing.
I can’t agree with you on this one Frank. In my opinion the church has been trying way too hard to conform to the culture in order to reach the lost. We think we will win them by our methods and by identifying with them by being like them. Essentially what we end up doing is trusting ourselves and our methods rather than God’s Spirit to do the work.
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” (2 Corinthians 4:7)
What matters is not that we are in a “21st-century postmodern culture” that supposedly requires different methods to be effective, but that God’s Spirit is at work.
Mike: Have you read “Pagan Christianity?” . . . that will give you an idea of where I’m coming from and what I mean by archaic and traditional. http://www.PaganChristianity.org
Hi Frank, Yes, I’ve read it, but it was quite some time ago. I’ll have to review it again as it sounds like you’re saying that I might have missed your meaning here. Thanks! Mike
Love, love love this Frank! So funny especially the nickname part…I needed a good belly laugh this morning (going for surgery) so thanks for posting. Oh and yes, I agree re your sentiments about the state of Christianity today…a different language for sure…oh and I STILL do not understand the “offside rule”!
