Welcome to another Thursday UNFILTERED blog post, the only blog that was created because the typical Christian blog is boring.
Social media, in all of its brilliance, glory, fakery, and viciousness, has turned everyone into an expert.
I never knew that Joe the carpenter is a high-level specialist in infectious diseases.
Did you?
Just look at his Facebook page. There’s no question that he’s an expert (at least in his own mind).
Pamela the church secretary is an epidemiologist.
Who knew?
Just look at her Facebook live videos. She’s an expert on epidemics – or so she thinks.
I was also surprised to find out that Tom, the high school janitor, is an expert virologist.
Who knew?
Just look at his Twitter feed. He’s well-versed at sharing YouTube videos on contagious viruses and commenting on them.
Then there’s Rick the mechanic. He’s an expert on face masks and economics.
Who knew?
Thank you social media. You’ve made everybody an expert … overnight.
Ahem.
By the way, ONE of the reasons why there’s so much counter noise on social media is because people think that if they watch a YouTube video (by a self-proclaimed “expert”) or read another person’s social media feed (by other self-proclaimed “experts”), they too are an expert … in virtually every subject they choose.
Social media gives us the illusion that we’re are all experts.
The other reason for the constant digital blood-letting is that God’s people, so many of them, have never been taught or challenged to ReGrace.
Having said all that, I believe everyone has expertise in something. And the best way to share that expertise is to write a book.
Nothing gives a person more authority or credibility in a given area than publishing a book. In fact, it actually gives a person MORE authority/credibility in a subject than earning a PhD.
The trouble is, most people who have a message that helps people never write a book. Or if they try, they never finish it. Or if they finish it, they have no clue on how to get more than 100 people to buy it.
(Incidentally, that’s why I created SCRIBE – my premium live training where I teach EVERYTHING I know about how to write a compelling book, how to get it published, and how to see it hit a bestseller list. Registration to SCRIBE 2021 opens very soon. JOIN THE WAIT LIST HERE if you’re interested in attending. All the details will be sent to you by email. Just make double sure you type your email address on the wait list correctly, else we cannot reach you.)
The bottom line is stay in your lane.
Don’t pretend to be an expert in areas where you clearly aren’t.
At the same time, find out where your expertise lies and invest in making that knowledge known so that others may benefit.
That’s the precise reason why I have chosen to write books. To see other people’s lives changed by sharing that which has changed my own.
Until next week,
Your non-expert brother,
fv
