Welcome to another Thursday UNFILTERED blog post, the only blog that prefers push-ups and loves dogs because dogs are forever in the push-up position.
No one is perfect. We all make mistakes.
However, here are ten mistakes that Christians, especially those who are active in ministry, should avoid at all costs.
These aren’t the obvious ones that are typically talked about in Christian circles.
They are more subtle and less frequently discussed:
1) Refuse to receive correction from genuine Christians who have credibility.
2) Believe accusations against your brethren without going to them directly.
3) Make a cause more important than Christ and do not understand the difference.
4) Believe the myth that you should only read the Bible and no other Christian books.
5) Assume that everyone who professes to have a ministry is a true follower of Jesus.
6) Break a friendship over an interpretation of the Bible.
7) Refuse to have peers who know you well and can speak into your life.
8) Befriend “Christians” who falsely accuse others on social media and blogs.
9) Be quick to defend yourself against attack and return evil for evil.
10) Buy the lie that reading Scripture is unnecessary for your spiritual development and well-being.

Excellent! I agree with all ten and needed to hear some of them. The opening about dogs and push ups had me laughing out loud!

Thank you so much for this list and speaking out against the horrible abuse of false accusations in the Christian camp. I see it so much these days with social media. My husband was a victim of this a few years ago and it devastated us that so many of our “friends” never came to us directly about it.

Spot on! Thanks Frank. Great list. Not the typical thing you hear these days.

Frank, this list is powerful and so true. These two especially hit home as I’ve been the victim of false accusations and some of my Facebook friends are still friends with the abusive slanderers.
“Never believe accusations against your brethren without going to them directly.”
That is exactly what Jesus taught! Yet it’s something many Christians ignore. Only a few people came to me to ask if the accusations were true. So very sad.
“Befriend “Christians” who falsely accuse others on social media and blogs.”
The Bible is clear that we are not to have fellowship with people who sin like this unless they repent (1 Corinthians 5). It specifically mentions slanderers (verse 11).
Slander and lies against others are abusive. Never befriend abusers because it only empowers them. I think that’s why the Bible says have nothing to do with such people in Romans and Titus.
